Delhi High Court defers hearing of call drop compensation case to January 7

The Delhi high Court on Wednesday deferred the hearing on ‘compensation for call drops’ till Thursday, January 7.

The decision comes less than a week after the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) shot off a letter to telecom operators, reminding them to comply with its orders to compensate subscribers for calls dropped beginning January 1, even as the carriers say they will wait for court directions before paying.

Mobile phone carriers had decided not to pay any compensation, unless directed to do so by the court, putting it at odds with the regulator’s views that payment to subscribers must start from January 1 as the court hadn’t stayed TRAI’s decision.
